JRP_Success Blooms: Isqanbuus Cooperative Farmers Celebrate Harvest Season, Galdogob.

This December marks a season of triumph and hope for the Isqanbuus Cooperative Farm as farmers embark on their long-awaited harvesting period. After months of diligent effort, the farm is now flourishing, producing an impressive variety of crops, including spinach, maize, okra, pepper, and even watermelons. The results reflect a collaborative success story fueled by the resilience of the beneficiaries, expert agronomist support, and the dedicated efforts of the SDC team, with the steadfast backing of the World Food Programme (WFP).

Beneficiaries at the Heart of Success
The farm directly supports 30 households, providing these families not only with fresh, nutritious produce but also a stable means of livelihood. Through Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training, beneficiaries learned advanced farming techniques, pest control strategies, and efficient cultivation processes. These skills have enabled them to overcome challenges and maximize their productivity.
We are harvesting 130 okra pods and 180 other vegetables daily, and this is just the beginning,” shared one beneficiary with pride. The newfound knowledge and tools have turned the once-daunting farming process into a rewarding venture that promises improved health and increased income for families.

Transforming the Community
The impact of the farm goes beyond the fields. The consistent supply of vegetables has significantly reduced the community’s reliance on external food sources, leading to healthier meals and better nutrition. The economic benefits are equally notable. By creating a reliable source of income for farmers, the Isqanbuus Farm contributes to the local economy, empowering families and fostering a sense of stability and growth.

Overcoming Challenges Together
Despite the successes, the journey has not been without its obstacles.
• Water Shortages: The solar-powered water system has occasionally struggled to meet the farm’s needs during extreme heat.
• Pests and Livestock: Crop damage caused by pests and wandering goats and sheep was mitigated through effective spraying and fencing, though the pests remain a persistent concern.
• Theft: Occasional intrusions have resulted in stolen produce, prompting the need for improved security measures.
Through these challenges, the unwavering commitment of the SDC team and the ongoing support from WFP have been instrumental in finding solutions and ensuring the farm’s sustainability.

A Future Rooted in Hope
As the harvesting season progresses, Isqanbuus Cooperative Farm stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through collaboration, hard work, and community-driven initiatives. With every basket of fresh produce, the farmers are not just reaping the fruits of their labor—they are sowing seeds of hope for a brighter future.

A Heartfelt Thank You
This success story would not have been possible without the WFP’s generous support, the dedication of SDC agronomists, and the beneficiaries’ unwavering determination. Together, we have turned challenges into opportunities, paving the way for sustainable farming practices that will benefit generations to come. As we celebrate this season of abundance, we look forward to continued growth, stronger communities, and healthier families. The Isqanbuus Cooperative Farm is proof that resilience, when coupled with support, yields incredible results.
